Ryan McGinness is one of the most notable creators who make original art works with graphic design techniques and materials. In addition to his publishing, painting, printmaking and sculpture he was designed works for Colette, Sony, IBM, Sega, MTV and a skateboard for the street fashion brand ‘Supreme’, His graphic masterpiece ‘Flatnessisgod’ introduced his original design concepts and theory in 1999 to a very receptive audience. McGinness has exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia and been responsible for blazing a trail through the gap between art and design. Vogue recently recognized McGinness as ’ a leading pioneer of the new semiotics.’ By combining and remixing graphic vocabularies from a range of sources, his work makes strong social commentary on iconography, language, and historical and contemporary symbolism.
